Opportunity Is Not Strategy

Opportunity Is Not Strategy

Aruba has never lacked opportunities. What Aruba has lacked is consistent long-term planning.

Too often, decisions are made in isolation:

  • one project at a time,
  • one crisis at a time,
  • one promise at a time.

But national development does not work like that.

Tourism affects labor.

Labor affects housing.

Housing affects infrastructure.

Infrastructure affects the environment.

And the environment affects Aruba’s future competitiveness.

When these connections are ignored, the cost does not disappear. It simply moves downstream — into the daily lives of the community.

A serious future requires more than opportunities.

It requires direction.
